I know it's been a while since this was posted, but thought I would comment anyways.

I never quite understood what reason there would be for government to change its constitution, no thing in existence can alter it's own Constitution, so why would government. I believe you are correct in referring to an amendment as a tool to clarify. Languages change over the course of time, and take on different meanings, or in the case of "faith" and "belief" swapped meanings altogether. But this means an amendment cannot be contrary to the constitution. When it is, it's repugnant to the constitution and must be declared null and void immediately in order to avoid the misconception that amendments can turn any part of the Constitution into a lie.

The term "living document" referred to it's provision requiring members of both houses, executives, legislative, and judiciary branches of the states to swear an oath to "Support" the Constitution. Without support, it is as good as dead, especially in the hands of deceitfully greedy bastards. But enough about the bankers. The constitution didn't provide for a power to 'alter' except by the people in conventions of the several states. It clearly made it so that any alteration or anything inconsistent with the constitution would be a violation of their oath, and breach of contract, making all those amendments inconsistent null and void.

If the amendment doesn't properly apply to the Preamble, it has no place being a part of the Constitution. It is the "Rule of Law" as it was understood when drafting a bill, further amendments are bound to follow the preamble as the guide for provisions fitting within the reach of the Bill.

Yes, you should be always correct grammatically. You probably are the only one who realized that "like" should be "as". However, I am definitely not the only person to realize that you needed to capitalize at the beginning of every sentence. It may be prudent to realize that before correcting people.

The rules do change. Look and see how many revisions there have been of MLA.

i applaud your posting. we need more of it. but i take issue with the suggestion the rules are changing. they don't. strunk & white is still relevant. it is acceptance of rules violations that change. for example your phrase "like in the previous sentence" should be "as in the previous sentence," but i'm probably the only person who would notice it these days. sorry for being so esoteric and schoolmarmish, but as www.straightrecord.com points out frequently, you must follow correct grammar if you expect to communicate. also, lawyers may realize incorrect spelling can ruin a legal document, but they are, as a profession, among the worst writers. thanks for your space.

In general good. But perhaps you could go further and say that torture is an ABSOLUTE sin, except in the case of the exception -- which there is real evidence that the terrorists have the bomb.

Short of that - well, the Bush administration says that torture has saved lives. But then it says a lot of things, and who believes them anymore?

Here's an interesting article about how Teddy Roosevelt reacted to reports of terrorism by the US armed forces: http://harpers.org/archive/2007/12/hbc-90001903

Author's note: That isn't surprising. . . No, I'm not a member, I would never show them any kind of support. As a member of Facebook, I was able to see the main group page, but I was too disgusted to really delve into it beyond the main manifesto.

Oh, my Japan.... I used to live there. This news makes me a bit sad. Yep. You got it. Many countries are heading in this direction. Gordon Brown, the PM of Britain was to propose a law saying that only healthy people can get care in the National Health System!!! Talk about a "WTF moment"!

What people don't realize is that being fat is not always a result of eating too much. I wrote up a post on this about a month ago showing the multitude of reasons why people can gain weight. The biggest myth appears to be that one eats out of joy. It's ignorance.
